The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a clarification after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s names were found missing from the latest ODI rankings, sparking widespread speculation among fans about their future in the format.

The updated list, published on Wednesday, initially excluded both Indian batting greats, even though ODI cricket is the only format they are still active in after retiring from Tests and T20Is. The omission triggered social media chatter that the two legends might soon bid farewell to ODIs as well.

ICC Calls It a Technical Glitch

Responding to the controversy, the ICC stated that the absence of Kohli and Rohit was due to a technical error. “A number of issues in this week’s rankings are currently being investigated,” the body told Wisden. The names were later restored, with Rohit ranked No. 2 and Kohli at No. 4 in the latest ODI batting list.

Changes in ODI Bowling Rankings

Meanwhile, in the bowling charts, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj reclaimed the No. 1 spot after a match-winning spell against Australia, where he took 5 for 33. Maharaj overtook India’s Kuldeep Yadav, who dropped to third, and Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana. Ravindra Jadeja remains the only other Indian bowler in the top 10.
